Richard Tayson's books are The World Underneath, The Apprentice of Fever (winner of the Wick Poetry Prize), and Look Up for Yes (co-authored with Julia Tavalaro)

Tayson has received twice been a New York Foundation for the Arts fellow and received Prairie Schooner’s Edward Stanley and Bernice Slote awards.

His poems and nonfiction appear in Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses XXI, the Paris Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, and over fifty publications in the United States, Germany, England, Australia, and Canada.  is a contributor for Pleiades:  A Journal of New Writing (and Reviews)

Tayson is currently at work on a memoir and has completed a third book of poems, The Lamentation Collector.

An editor of poetry and non-fiction manuscripts, as well as of college applications, Richard Tayson has worked numerous poets and writers whose works he edited prior to publication.  Clients include Becky Thompson, whose Zero is the (W)hole I Fall into at Night won the Main Street Rag Poetry Prize and whose Survivors of the Yoga Mat was also published; Jennifer Markell, whose Samsara was named a must-read book by of poetry by the Massachusetts Book Awards, and Jane Hayman, whose chapbook Ghost Places appeared from Finishing Line Press.

Educator

Richard Tayson (B.A. Colorado State University, M.A. New York University, Ph.D. CUNY Graduate Center) created the course Poetry and the Creative Process, which he teaches--along with other poetry workshops--at New School University.  He also teaches courses at Queensborough Community College, one of the most diverse colleges in the United States.
